Our 7-year stay in India as an expat family with 3 children ultimately brought us to where we are today: A start-up family business with two locations in Hungary and the Netherlands and the Europe-wide shipping of hand-carved furniture, Interior decoration and home textiles from India.
Originally, we intended to report about our personal experiences with our furniture import from India such as; the quality of the different types of wood from Asia, how they are stored and cared for, minor repairs that you can do yourself and the care products that we tested here and found helpful.
However, our knowledge is no longer limited to the quality of furniture, but also comprises the cooperation with Indian furniture manufacturers, on-site quality controls, price negotiations and of course the indispensable oversea container transports and the associated financial and bureaucratic effort.
A dream is slowly coming true, albeit riddled with many obstacles at the beginning of our journey, not only due to working with a culture that is foreign to us and the communication difficulties associated with this, but also due to the Corona Pandemic, container traffic jams in the Suez Canal and port closures at the other end of the world.
Because as the Indians like to say : “In India, everything is possible!” In good and in bad times.
In the field of handicraft, India is certainly unbeatable worldwide.
Professions such as blacksmith, glass blower, wood carver, carpenter, block printer, weaver, draftsman and many others continue to be passed on within families, so that old crafts don’t die out.
Of course, one adapts to the tastes of the customers and changing styles throughout time, even though in India one tends to furnish their homes in a different manner (when compared to Europeans).
We have been furnishing our homes in an Indian style ever since 15 years.
In the meantime, our Indian furniture has moved to many different places with us. From India we moved to Brazil, from Brazil to Poland and from Poland to Hungary. And now finally to the Netherlands. Circumstances such as the oversea container transports, different climate zones and repeated assemblies and disassemblies of our furniture so far have not harmed the quality of such. We love the natural grain of our furniture to this day.
In addition to this, a good eye for the right combination of old and new, the clash of Asian/Mediterranean styles and modern individual pieces, but also the color and light combinations that one can experience when visiting our home have the ability to make our visitors feel at home and on vacation at the same time.

Unser 7-jähriger Aufenthalt in Indien als Expat-Familie mit 3 Kindern hat uns letztlich dorthin gebracht, wo wir heute stehen: Ein Start-up Familienbetrieb mit zwei Standorten in Ungarn und den Niederlanden und Europaweitem Versand von handgeschnitzten Möbeln, Innendekoration und Haustextilien aus Indien.
Ursprünglich hatten wir vor, über unsere Erfahrungen mit unserem Möbelimport aus Indien zu berichten.
Zum Beispiel über die Qualität der unterschiedlichen Holzsorten aus Asien, ihrer Lagerung und Pflege, kleineren Reparaturen, die selbst ausgeführt werden können und den Pflegeprodukten, die wir hier getestet und für hilfreich empfunden haben.
Unser Wissen beschränkt sich aber inzwischen nicht mehr nur auf die Qualität von Möbeln, sondern auch auf die Zusammenarbeit mit indischen Möbelherstellern, Qualitätskontrollen vor Ort, Preisverhandlungen und natürlich den unabdinglichen Container Transporten in beide Richtungen und dem damit verbundenen finanziellen und bürokratischen Aufwand.
Ein Traum wird langsam wahr, wenn auch am Anfang noch gespickt mit vielen Stolpersteinen und Hindernissen, bedingt nicht nur durch die Zusammenarbeit mit einer uns fremden Kultur und den damit verbundenen Verständigungsschwierigkeiten, sondern auch durch die Corona Pandemie, Containerstaus im Suezkanal und Hafensperrungen am anderen Ende der Welt.
Denn wie die Inder bei jeder sich bietenden Gelegenheit zu sagen pflegen: „In India, everything is possible!“, wie im Guten, so auch im Schlechten.
Auf dem Gebiet des Handicraft ist Indien sicherlich im Weltvergleich unschlagbar.
Berufe, wie die des Kunstschmiedes, Glasbläsers, Holzschnitzers, Tischlers, Block Printers, des Webers, Zeichners und vielen anderen werden weiterhin innerhalb der Familien weitergegeben, so dass altes Handwerk nicht ausstirbt.
Selbstverständlich passt man sich auch hier den Geschmäckern der Kunden und wechselnden Stilrichtungen zeitnah an, auch wenn man sich in Indien, im Vergleich zu Europa, eher anders einzurichten pflegt.
Wir selbst leben seit 15 Jahren in und mit indischem Mobiliar.
Inzwischen sind unsere Möbel mit uns schon viele Male umgezogen. Von Indien ging es nach Brasilien, von dort weiter nach Polen und Ungarn. Und nun zuletzt in die Niederlande. Containertransporte, verschiedene Klimazonen und wiederholter Auf- und Abbau zB. der Betten, haben bisher der Qualität keinen Abbruch getan. Und wir lieben die natürliche Maserung unserer Möbel bis heute.
Zusätzlich beeindruckt wahrscheinlich ein Händchen für die richtige Zusammenstellung von alt und neu, asiatischem /mediterranen Stil und modernen Einzelstücken, aber auch die Farb-und Licht Kombinationen, dass man sich bei uns zu Hause und zugleich im Urlaub fühlen kann.
